Final Fantasy XIII (Or is it?)

Ok so here we go again, this review is of Final Fantasy XIII, as it sounds it is the thirteenth installment of this very popular series (not including crystal chronicles and spin off titles such as Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core). The series has a rich history, but this installment seems to change many regulars about these games that fans have come to expect. One such change is the fighting style. The new fighting style is a mix of final fantasy favorite (and personal favorite) turn based fighting and free form which is the new craze. There are no random battles so you have to run into the creatures to fight them, and then your party enters a battle screen, in which you control one character and fight based on enemies weakness employing techniques of many paradigms.
What is a paradigm shift? Well in basic terms its the same as a job system. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, a job system is a way of controlling party members via a.i. (artificial intelligence)and the capabilities that each character may or may not have. A simple explanation being which is that there are three major classes in RPG type games, that is Physical, Those who rely on brute force, hand to hand contact, swords, blunt objects, even guns (This may be offensive or defensive), the second is White Mage, a white mage being one who uses magic to heal, despell status effects, and bring the dead back to life, sometimes white mages can even cast spells on its own party to enhance there capabilities, the last true character type is black mages, a black mage uses magic to inflict damage upon enemies, and they also cast spells that harm the status' of enemies. Now in most RPG's characters are assigned these roles by the developers and you as the consumer and player play as them as they are given to you. In a job based game however, the developers add a system, which differs from game to game but usually is relatively the same, and that ability is being able to alter a characters type, therefore a character or all characters can change based on opponents, this gives you an advantage of changing based on your needs. You can then make a Physical fighter a black mage, your black mage changes into a white mage and maybe your white mage turns into a black mage. The reason this is significant is that some characters can learn attacks in some classes that others may not be able to learn. For instance one black mage could learn fire, water and ice attacks, while another one may learn, water, earth, lightning, and dark attacks; depending on what you need one may be better than the other, there is also room for overlapping as seen in this example as both characters have the spell of water.
Well that is the job system and if you still don't get DON'T CRY ABOUT IT TO ME! This is a review of a game and I spent more time then i wanted defining job classes! So the jobs in this game are called paradigms. You may change your paradigms at any time in a battle, as long as you have it in a paradigm menu that you can customize in the main menu of the game. The paradigms that you have available to you are: Commando which is a Physical offensive type, then Sentinel which is a physical defensive type, Ravager which is a black magic type which focus's on attacking with elements, Medic which is the white mage that cures, then there is Saboteur which is a black mage that harms status's of opponents such as casting poison, debarrier, deprotect and such, lastly there is synergyst a white mage that casts status spells on your party like haste and protect and such. Once again once you get further in the game each character attains all paradigms and you can switch between paradigms at any time.
This brings up the question of how do you make characters stronger in each paradigm, what is the leveling up system. Well in this game that term has become obsolete because there are no levels in the game. After each fight you win CP which is the equivalent of experience points, you then use the CP points to advance your chrystalerium. I know what your saying.... "SLOW DOWN THERE TIGER WHAT THE FUCK IS A CHRYSTAKERIUM? WHERE DID YOU PULL THAT ONE OUT OF YOUR ASS?" Well its a little complicated but in simple terms its the system where you take the CP points and use them to develop paradigms making them more advanced. However each paradigm has a track that you must follow so its not free form, you have to go in order. The closest thing that there is to a leveling up system is the system for weapons. The new system for weapons is taking certain items and combining them with your weapon to add experience to it until it levels up and gains attack and magic bonuses, your weapon can even change completely making it a whole new weapon.
"START TALKING ABOUT THE GAME ALREADY GOD!" I know but these notes were worth making, it is the changing of one of the best franchises in gaming history, and for video game companies to actually try something new when they had is extremely rare and worth talking about, because most of the time it blows up in there face, and we the consumers pay the price because even if it sucks are you really not going to by Final Fantasy XIII lets be serious.
This is where I get to unveil my little joke on you guys, this is not a review of FF XIII it is actually a review of Squarenix, if anything at all besides the newest changes to my personal favorite game franchise. They have decided to change it up on us in an effort to blow us away. Well it is still to be decided if they accomplished there goal, that will take the review of many people, and the honestly it is in the people that make a game what it is so its up to you the gamer to decide.... "BUT NICK YOU STUPID FUCKING NINNY YOUR A GAME REVIEWER (at least in your own head... or is it my own head... talking with yourself is hard) ITS YOUR JOB TO TELL US WHAT TO BUY" For one if you are saying this don't trust me with your $60, and if you do want to do that, tell me I will give you my address and you can mail it to me "REALLY!?!?!?!?!" NO NOT REALLY GOD ITS SARCASM.... FUCKING IDIOTS! So here is the truth "YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH!" I HATE YOU ALL! I have yet to beat the game and as such have an inability to review said game. So keep tuned for an actual review... and yes I know I'm talking to myself.

Yankees pre-season

So its pre-season, and that can only mean one thing baseball is around the corner, and can I just say, HOLY FUCKING SHIT! its about time. There is a sporting dead hole for me in between football and baseball. I'm not big into hockey and I can really only watch post season basketball. BUT NOW THAT IS OVER! I will say this however, the winter Olympics were very exciting. I did jump on the bandwagon of curling I admit it, but it was cool... haha winter Olympic pun... Hockey was amusing among others but it was able to sustain my need for competition. Tiger Woods just declared that he would play in the Masters I'm psyched for that, and yes i still like Tiger Woods. Crucify me if you will I may not agree with his personal life but he may be the greatest athlete of our or of any time, so I think hes worth watching.

Ok I got of track. Lets talk baseball, the smell of pine tar is in the air. So its the pre-season, the meaningless games, yes some might say this but its a good time to scout talent and shake off the rust. Baseball starts on Easter Sunday and to me thats more important than anything else that ever happened on Easter... I mean its not like Easter has ever been really special, magical or divine in history. So the Yanks start off against the Sox all I have to say is beautiful, however, having them play so early means less games late and those are always more exciting. I truly believe thats what makes baseball so great, its the tension the thrill, the endless drawn out war that it is. Its the only sport where everyday is a battle and the cant be one in a single day, or even week. As a matter of fact sometimes seasons can be one by a strategic loss. It truly is a masterful sport.

Needless to say I'm excited, I am hoping to by tickets when they go on sale Friday. I have not yet been to the new stadium and that makes my heart sink. But I will remedy that like the festering infection that it is. A little bit about me and my Yankee loving self i guess is due to you, my favorite yankee is Texiera (he used to be my favorite player in baseball but then we signed him damn straight), other than him I like the captain of course and Cano, and who can forget Andy Pettite my south paw hero (since I also am a lefty pitcher), Jorge is up there and Mo of course, and against common belief I think A-Rod is amazing and deserves praise. I lived in Rhode Island most of my life and we do not get the YES network (the Yankees entertainment station I believe... point is this is the channel that has the rights to the Yankees) so I listened to all the games on the radio, I ususally caught around 150 games a year thats not so bad. Recently I have been finding hard to watch so many due to schedule, but I vow to catch at least 130 this year!
So here is my A.L. East predictions look for more to come: Yankees- 102 wins, Redsox - 91wins, Tampabay- 85 wins, Toronto- 72 wins, Baltimore- 60 wins
